Greetings Yogahubbers.
We are on Day 6 of our Wild at Heart Africa Safari and Yoga Adventure. I’m my wildest dreams I could never have imagined how much I would enjoy this trip. It has exceeded my expectations and then some!
We have had up close encounters with lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, rhinos, hippos, warthogs, monkeys just to name a few, and OH! the babies, unbearably gorgeous! Lion cubs, cheetah cubs, baby elephants, baby rhinos and possibly the cutest of all – baby warthogs.
We have witnessed magnificent dawns, dramatic red sunsets, picturesque savanna landscape, stood and the top of the worlds third largest (and only green) canyon and at the bottom of breathtaking waterfalls.
We learned a lot too. Our guides are experts at reading the environment and locating the animals and know everything about their behaviour and social systems. Did you know that elephants are a matriarchy? The female elephants (cows) live harmoniously together in a breeding heard under the leadership of ‘The Matriarch’. The teenage bulls are forced out of the herd at around 13 years and thereafter live a fairly solitary life. Sometimes they get a bit lonely, and another older bull will take them under their wing and mentor them in how to be a bull.
At the end of each full day of this incredible immersion into the wild, and all her incredible creatures, we are welcomed home by a steady parade of curious Zebras, Kudo, Bush Babies and Monkeys that surround the luxurious Needles Lodge. Which has truly been our home away from home. The staff at Needles Lodge have been impeccably attentive and spoil us with a three course gourmet meal every night. Of course, our happy tired bodies have been nourished with daily asana practice, yoga nidra and pranayama.
Our Yogahub community is strong, and I’m very proud of that. These opportunities to deepen our ties, and literally travel together are really special. I can’t recommend this trip highly enough. Before I even depart this adventure I’m looking forward to returning.
PS – A few snaps above. However, photos really don’t do justice to the real experience of encountering the animals.
